Does Honest Mobile include roaming?
Yes. EU roaming is included on all of Honest Mobile's Classic SIM plans, letting you use your UK data, calls, and texts abroad. What makes it unusual is the structure: rather than a flat allowance or a charge from the first day, Honest gives you a number of free roaming days per trip, and only charges a modest daily fee after those run out. For short and frequent trips, that often means you pay nothing at all.
This applies to the Classic SIM, which is Honest's standard phone plan. Honest also offers a separate Smart SIM aimed squarely at travel, covered later in this guide, which works very differently.
The five free days: how it works
The core of Honest's roaming is simple and generous for short trips: you get five free roaming days on every trip you take, and after those, further days cost £2 each. The crucial detail is that the free-day count resets every time you return to the UK. There is no annual limit on how many trips get their own five free days, so a series of long weekends or short business trips to Europe can cost you nothing at all.
One point that catches people out is when the clock starts. A free roaming day begins the moment your phone connects to a network abroad, whether for calls, texts, or data, not when you actively choose to use it. So if you land and your phone connects automatically, that day has started. For a trip of five days or fewer you never reach the £2 charge; only from the sixth day onward does it apply.
Where can you roam with Honest Mobile?
Honest's included EU roaming covers all EU countries plus a number of additional European territories, for around 44 destinations in total, including territories such as St Barthelemy and the French part of St Martin. Across these you use your normal UK allowance under the five-free-days model.
For anywhere outside that EU and EEA list, the Classic SIM moves to non-EU roaming, which works on a different daily-cap basis covered below, or you can use the Smart SIM. As always, check whether your specific destination is in the EU roaming zone before you travel, since a country outside it is charged differently.
How much roaming data do you get?
Your roaming data depends on your plan. On Honest's 4GB or 10GB plans, you can use your full UK data allowance abroad, so there is no separate, lower roaming cap to worry about. On the Unlimited plan, roaming data is subject to a fair usage limit of 20GB per calendar month, which is the figure to hold onto if you are a heavy user on the top plan.
Calls and texts to UK numbers are included under your allowance while roaming, but note that calls to EU numbers are not included in the same way, so dialling a local number abroad can be charged separately. Tethering draws on your normal data allowance with no separate limit.
What happens after the free days or over the limit?
There are two separate things that can trigger a charge, and it helps to keep them apart.
The first is time. Once you pass your five free days on a trip, each further day costs £2 to keep using your allowance. That £2 unlocks your normal data, calls, and texts for that day, and the charge simply continues for each additional day until you head home, at which point the free-day count resets for next time.
The second is the 20GB data cap, which applies only on the Unlimited plan. If you reach 20GB of roaming data in a calendar month, Honest's fair usage policy applies. On the 4GB and 10GB plans there is no separate roaming cap, since you are simply using your plan's own allowance. For most travellers the £2 daily charge after five days is the cost that actually matters, not the data cap, because typical trip data use sits well under 20GB.
Roaming outside Europe and the Smart SIM
Outside the EU, the Classic SIM applies daily roaming caps: you are charged standard roaming rates up to a daily cap, after which a bundle of minutes, texts, and data automatically unlocks for the rest of that day, so you are protected from a runaway bill. This is convenient but can still be pricey for a long non-EU trip.
For travel beyond Europe, Honest's standout option is the Smart SIM. This is a separate, data-only eSIM that sits alongside your main SIM and connects across EE, O2, Three, and Vodafone in the UK, with free roaming in over 180 countries and no daily charge or fair usage cap. The trade-off is that it works with a curated list of around 500 essential apps, such as WhatsApp, Google Maps, banking, and navigation, rather than full open data, so it is built for staying connected rather than streaming. It costs £10 per month or £45 for a year. Fair usage and long trips
Honest Mobile's roaming is built for travel rather than living abroad. Alongside the five-free-days model, a fair usage policy limits roaming to around 60 days, after which additional charges or restrictions can apply, and Honest, through the Three network it uses, can ask you to transfer out or pay extra if you spend an extended period abroad. Honest says it will always give notice if that happens. The Unlimited plan's 20GB monthly roaming cap and a very high domestic fair usage threshold also apply. For ordinary holidays and frequent short trips, none of these limits is likely to bite; they matter mainly for those effectively based overseas.
What a typical trip actually costs
Consider two contrasting trips on an Honest Mobile 10GB plan.
First, a long weekend in Lisbon, four days, using a few GB of data. Because it falls within the five free days, and you can use your full 10GB allowance abroad, the trip costs nothing extra at all. This is where Honest shines: short trips are genuinely free, however many you take.
Second, a two-week holiday in Spain, 14 days. The first five days are free, leaving nine chargeable days at £2 each, so the roaming adds £18 to your bill, with your normal data allowance used throughout. The lesson is that Honest is outstanding value for short and frequent trips, where you rarely pay anything, and still reasonable for a longer holiday, where the £2-per-day-after-five model keeps a fortnight well under £20. Always remember the free days start on connection, so a trip of exactly five days stays free only if you count from the moment you land.
How Honest Mobile roaming compares
Honest Mobile's roaming suits a specific traveller very well: someone who takes frequent short trips to Europe. Because the five free days reset every trip, a person who hops to the continent for long weekends can roam all year for free, which flat-allowance networks cannot match. For a single longer holiday, the £2 per day after five days is mid-table: cheaper than networks charging from day one, but not as simple as O2 including 25GB with no daily charge, or SMARTY including 12GB.
Its real differentiator is the Smart SIM for travel beyond Europe, which few rivals offer in any form, plus its carbon-negative, no-price-rise positioning. If you take many short European trips or travel widely outside the EU, Honest is a genuinely strong and distinctive choice. If you want the largest single included EU allowance with no day-counting, a network like O2 or a 30GB budget option may suit better.
How to check and manage your roaming
Enable EU roaming for your Classic SIM in the Honest app before you travel, and switch on data roaming in your phone settings. Because the five free days start the moment your phone connects abroad, be aware of that on arrival, and use a spending cap in the app if you want to control costs on a longer trip.
