How we reviewed Honest Mobile
To put this review together, we checked Honest Mobile's current plan lineup and pricing against live deal data in July 2026, verified the loyalty discount and roaming terms against Honest Mobile's own help centre, and reviewed its credit check policy and cancellation terms. What is Honest Mobile?
Honest Mobile is an MVNO that launched in 2019 and runs on Three's network, which means Three's 4G and 5G coverage at lower prices than Three direct. It is the UK's first B Corp certified mobile network and operates as a carbon negative business. The Classic SIM range is deliberately small: 4GB, 10GB, or unlimited data, all with unlimited UK calls and texts, on 1 month rolling or 12 month terms, with data-only plans also available. Its two standout features are a loyalty discount that reduces your bill every month you stay, capped at 30%, and the Smart SIM, a backup eSIM that connects to all four UK networks and roams in over 180 countries.
Honest Mobile vs Smarty
Smarty is Three's own budget brand, so both networks share identical infrastructure. This is the most direct comparison for anyone deciding whether Honest Mobile's extras justify its higher day one prices.
Network
Both run on Three, which covers around 99% of the UK population for 4G. Following the VodafoneThree merger, customers on both networks are gaining access to Vodafone masts in areas where Three signal is weaker, with the rollout continuing through 2026.

Smarty is significantly cheaper on day one. Smarty offers 5GB with unlimited calls and texts from £6 per month, while Honest Mobile's entry plan is 4GB at £13.50 per month on rolling terms, or £12.15 on a 12 month plan. On unlimited data, Smarty is £18 per month against Honest Mobile's £25.

Price direction over time
This is where the two networks genuinely differ. Smarty has no annual price rises, though as a 30 day network it can change your renewal price with notice. Honest Mobile goes further: your bill actively decreases every month you stay, at a rate of 5% per year, up to a maximum discount of 30%, and committing to a 12 month plan adds a 10% boost. On the unlimited plan, that takes £25 down towards £17.50 over time. No other UK network reduces your bill for loyalty. That said, even at the full 30% discount, Honest Mobile's unlimited plan only reaches parity with Smarty's £18 standard price, so the loyalty discount narrows the gap rather than reversing it. Roaming
Both include EU roaming, but the structures differ. Smarty lets you use your UK allowance in Europe up to a 12GB monthly fair use limit at no charge. Honest Mobile gives you five free roaming days per trip, resetting each time you return to the UK, then charges £2 per day, with a 20GB data cap. For short, frequent trips Honest Mobile's model often costs nothing at all; for a long single stay Smarty's flat allowance is simpler. Honest Mobile holds a Trustpilot score of 4.6 out of 5 from around 4,000 reviews as of July 2026, with customer service the most consistently praised aspect and named agents regularly called out in reviews. Smarty scores 4.1 out of 5 from over 48,000 reviews as of July 2026. Neither network offers phone support, but Honest Mobile's app-based support is a clear differentiator, with the company claiming average response times measured in seconds rather than hours.

Verdict
If your only criterion is price, Smarty wins and it is not close. If you want the same Three network with support that responds quickly, a bill that falls rather than rises, and a company whose environmental credentials are independently certified, Honest Mobile justifies the premium.
Honest Mobile vs iD Mobile
iD Mobile is the most popular budget MVNO on Three's network, owned by Currys. Both networks share Three's infrastructure, so this comparison isolates price, features, and sign-up terms.

iD Mobile scores 4.3 out of 5 on Trustpilot from over 70,000 reviews as of July 2026, a solid score for a large budget network, though support is handled through app and community channels and reviews are mixed on resolution speed. Honest Mobile's 4.6 from around 4,000 reviews reflects a much smaller customer base but consistently faster, more personal support.

iD Mobile is the better pure value pick: cheaper across the board, data rollover, and 30GB EU roaming. Honest Mobile wins for anyone who cannot or does not want to pass a credit check, and for those who value responsive support over the lowest headline price.

Giffgaff runs on O2's network and is one of the most recognisable budget MVNOs in the UK. This comparison is useful because it crosses infrastructure: Three versus O2.

Honest Mobile runs on Three, Giffgaff on O2. Three has led UK 5G speed testing in recent independent reports, while EE rather than either of these hosts has ranked as the most reliable UK network in every RootMetrics RootScore Report since 2020, most recently in the H2 2025 report. Between the two, Three's 5G footprint and the incoming Vodafone mast sharing give Honest Mobile the stronger data story, while O2's 4G coverage remains broadly comparable. The honest caveat is price. On day one, Smarty, iD Mobile, and Giffgaff all undercut Honest Mobile substantially, and the loyalty discount takes years to close that gap and never fully closes it on unlimited data.
