What network does Smarty run on?

Smarty runs on Three's network, which covers approximately 99% of the UK population for 4G, with 5G available in over 300 towns and cities. Three and Vodafone completed their merger in 2025 to form VodafoneThree, and Smarty customers now benefit from both networks. Since August 2025, Smarty phones have been able to connect automatically to Vodafone masts as well as Three ones wherever the shared network technology is enabled, at no extra cost and with nothing to set up. That rollout reached 10,000 mast sites by April 2026 and is being prioritised in areas with the weakest signal from one operator or the other, so the practical effect varies by location and is still expanding. As with any network, rural signal can be variable, so use Smarty's coverage checker to confirm signal at your postcode before switching.

Which Smarty deal is worth your money right now?

Smarty's 35GB plan at £7.00 a month is the pick. You get unlimited minutes and texts, 5G, EU roaming, and no credit check on Three's network. Smarty applies no annual price rises, and because every plan is 30 day rolling, you can leave or change plan any month without penalty. If you use more data, the steps up are cheap: 75GB at £8.00 or 95GB at £9.00 a month. Heavy users should look at 170GB for £12.00, and unlimited data is £17.00 a month. If you just need data for a tablet or dongle, Smarty's data-only plans start at £5.00 a month for 2GB. Smarty's data discount and Group Plans

Two Smarty features are worth factoring into your choice. The data discount credits you back for unused data at the end of each month on eligible plans, which suits anyone whose usage varies. Check the plan card at sign-up to confirm whether your chosen allowance qualifies. Group Plans let up to eight people share one account with 10% off every SIM, and each member can pick a different plan size, which makes Smarty a strong option for families.

Do I need a credit check on a Smarty SIM only contract?

No. Smarty does not run a credit check on any plan, because every contract is 30 day rolling with no long-term financial commitment. Can I get an eSIM on a Smarty SIM only contract?

Yes. Every Smarty deal listed here is available as a physical SIM or an eSIM, and existing customers can swap to eSIM at any time through the Smarty dashboard. Does 5G come as standard on Smarty SIM only deals?

Yes. Every Smarty plan includes 5G at no extra cost, with no speed caps applied. Whether you can actually use it depends on having a 5G handset and being in a 5G coverage area. Can I use my Smarty SIM abroad?

Yes. Every Smarty plan includes EU roaming, so you can use your UK calls, texts, and up to 12GB of data per month while travelling in Europe at no extra cost. One thing to sort before you fly: Smarty SIMs need a one-off settings change to work abroad, so enable roaming on your phone before you travel. Instructions are in your Smarty account.

Can I switch to Smarty and keep my number?
