1pMobile includes EU roaming on every plan, and unusually its 46 destination list includes Switzerland, which most networks charge extra for. The catch is a 14GB monthly cap and an over limit rate that sounds cheap but is not. This guide, reviewed in July 2026, explains exactly what 1pMobile roaming covers and what it costs when you go over. You can compare current plans on our 1pMobile SIM only deals page.

How we put this guide together
To put this guide together, we reviewed 1pMobile’s roaming terms in July 2026, checking the roaming data cap, out of bundle rates, destination list and fair use rules directly against 1pMobile’s own help pages and terms and conditions rather than third party summaries. Where relevant, we have drawn on our own experience of comparing roaming policies across UK MVNOs. Coverage reliability assessments reference the most recent RootMetrics UK RootScore Report and Ofcom Connected Nations data.
Does 1pMobile include roaming?
Yes. EU roaming is included on every 1pMobile plan at no extra cost, and it is switched on by default for all customers, on both the monthly Boost plans and the 1p pay as you go tariff. On a Boost you use your normal UK allowance abroad, subject to a 14GB data cap. On pay as you go, the same 1p per minute, text and MB rates apply in the EU as at home. There is no sign up date split: the same terms apply whenever you joined.
Where can you roam with 1pMobile?
1pMobile’s inclusive roaming covers 46 European destinations. The list includes everywhere you would expect, plus some places that pleasantly surprise: Switzerland is included, which several UK networks exclude or charge daily fees for, as are Iceland, Norway, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. The notable absence is Turkey, which is not in the inclusive zone and falls under worldwide rates, along with Northern Cyprus. Check 1pMobile’s own destination list before you book if your destination is borderline.
How much roaming data do you get?
The headline figure is 14GB per Boost period. Because Boosts run on a 30 day cycle, this works out as 14GB per month, resetting each time your Boost renews. Two things follow from that. If your plan is smaller than 14GB, your plan allowance is your limit abroad, exactly as at home. If your plan is larger, 14GB is your real allowance abroad, whatever the headline says: a 150GB plan still gets 14GB of EU roaming data, not 150GB. Minutes and texts from your allowance work in the EU as normal.
What happens if you go over the limit?
Your data does not stop and it does not slow down. It keeps working and starts charging, at 1pMobile’s standard pay as you go rate of 1p a MB, deducted from your credit balance. That rate sounds tiny and is not: 1p a MB is £10.24 per GB. There is no roaming pass or data add-on to soften it, and no roaming spend cap. When your credit balance falls below £2, 1pMobile automatically tops it up by £10 charged to your payment card, so the charging continues without interruption rather than cutting you off. The only real protections are watching your usage, turning mobile data off, or treating 14GB as a hard personal limit.
Roaming outside Europe
1pMobile does offer roaming beyond Europe, but nothing is inclusive. Outside the 46 EU and EEA destinations, all usage is charged from your credit balance at per country worldwide rates, and your Boost allowance does not apply at all. 1pMobile publishes rates for each destination on its international and roaming page, and its own terms warn that costs outside the EU can use up credit very quickly. For anything more than emergency use outside Europe, a local SIM or a travel eSIM will almost always be cheaper.
Long stays and fair use rules
1pMobile’s inclusive roaming is for periodic travel such as holidays and short breaks, and it enforces this with a rolling 90 day check. If you spend more time abroad than at home over any 90 day period, or your roaming usage exceeds your UK usage, 1pMobile reserves the right to apply a surcharge of £1 per day to your roaming, taken from your credit balance daily. Separately, local networks may block service if a SIM stays connected abroad for more than 60 consecutive days. If you are a long stay traveller or working abroad for months at a time, 1pMobile is not built for you.
What a typical trip actually costs
Take the £10.00 a month 50GB plan and a two week holiday in Spain where you use 20GB, which is realistic if you are streaming and navigating without hotel Wi-Fi. The first 14GB comes out of your allowance and costs nothing extra. The remaining 6GB is charged at 1p a MB, which is £61.44, collected from your credit balance through successive automatic £10 top-ups. Your £10 month has become a £71 month. The same trip using 12GB costs nothing beyond your normal £10. The lesson is blunt: on 1pMobile, the cost of an EU trip is entirely determined by whether you stay under 14GB.
How 1pMobile roaming compares
Against other budget networks, 1pMobile’s allowance is middle of the pack and its destination list is one of the best. SMARTY also caps EU roaming at 12GB per month but sells an EU roaming pass when you go over, which 1pMobile does not. Lebara is more generous at 30GB per month. Giffgaff allows just 5GB, and its cap applies per plan rather than per month. Comparator figures verified May 2026. Our steer: 1pMobile roaming is strong for the price for a normal holiday, helped by the Switzerland inclusion, but weak for heavy data travellers because there is no add-on and no spend protection once you pass 14GB. For the market wide picture, see our EU roaming guide.
How to check and manage your roaming
Roaming is enabled by default, but if you have ever switched it off, re-enable it in the network settings of your online account at least 48 hours before you travel. Your allowance, credit balance and itemised usage are all visible in your online account, which is worth checking mid trip since every call, text and MB is itemised. There is no roaming add-on to buy, so managing cost abroad means managing usage: download maps and playlists before you go, and keep an eye on the 14GB line. If you are switching to 1pMobile before a trip, our 1pMobile PAC code guide explains how to bring your number across, and you can compare plans on our 1pMobile SIM only deals page.
Roaming FAQs
Does 1pMobile roaming work in Switzerland?
Yes. Switzerland is included in 1pMobile’s 46 inclusive destinations, so your allowance works there at no extra cost, subject to the same 14GB cap. This is genuinely unusual: most UK networks treat Switzerland as outside their inclusive zone.
Does 1pMobile roaming work in Turkey?
No. Turkey is not in the inclusive zone, so all usage there is charged at worldwide rates from your credit balance and your plan allowance does not apply. Check the per country rate before you travel.
Can I use the 1p pay as you go tariff abroad?
Yes. The pay as you go tariff works in all 46 EU destinations at the same 1p per minute, text and MB rates you pay at home, which for light use is one of the cheapest ways to roam in Europe on any UK network.
Can I buy a roaming add-on or pass?
No. 1pMobile does not sell roaming passes or data add-ons. Once you pass the 14GB cap, data is charged at 1p a MB from your credit with no cheaper bulk option, so the cap is worth treating as a hard limit.
What happens if my credit runs out while I am abroad?
It will not run out in the way you might hope. Whenever your balance falls below £2, 1pMobile automatically tops it up by £10 from your saved payment card, so over limit charges continue rather than your data stopping. If you want a hard stop, turn mobile data off.
Best for: Holidaymakers taking one or two European trips a year who use less than 14GB a month abroad, especially anyone visiting Switzerland. Long stay travellers, digital nomads and heavy data users should look at networks with larger caps or proper roaming add-ons.
