Travel eSIM
Compare travel eSIM plans for Thailand, with prices updated daily. We compare plans from Airalo, Breeze, KnowRoaming, and Land&Go by Mozillion, and we are adding more providers. This page includes Thailand-only plans plus regional Asia and global plans that cover Thailand, so you can pick the option that suits a single-country trip or a longer route through South East Asia.
We may earn a commission if you buy a travel eSIM through our links. This does not affect how deals are ranked.
Features are shown where confirmed by the provider.
Plan prices, data allowances, validity, and features come from retailer feeds and are refreshed daily. Plans are sorted by lowest price by default, and you can sort or filter by data, trip length, coverage type, and provider. We may earn a commission when you buy through our links, but this does not change the order plans appear in.
The guidance below was checked against provider terms in October 2026. You can compare other destinations on our travel eSIM hub.
Airalo charges in US dollars. We show an approximate price in pounds using a daily exchange rate, so the amount on your statement may differ slightly. Your card provider may also add a fee for paying in a foreign currency.
Many trips to Thailand last two to four weeks and mix cities with islands, so plan for more data than a short city break. For two weeks with maps, messaging, and social media, 10GB is usually enough. Allow 20GB or more if you plan to work remotely, stream, or hotspot a laptop.
Grab and Bolt are the main apps for taxis and food delivery, and many hotels, guesthouses, and tour operators message guests on LINE or WhatsApp, so you will want data from the moment you land. Ferries and island transfers are easier to manage with data too, as timetables and bookings are often shared by message.
If you are also visiting Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, or elsewhere in the region, compare the Asia regional plans. The price per GB can work out lower than buying separate country plans.
Thailand is outside the European roaming zones included in most UK plans, so using your UK SIM there usually means a daily charge or pay as you go rates. Check what your network charges before you travel in our roaming guides.
Thailand has two main mobile networks: AIS and True, which merged with dtac in 2023 and now runs both the True and dtac brands. The state-owned National Telecom (NT) also operates a smaller network. Travel eSIMs usually run on AIS or True. You can check which network a plan uses in the plan details on the provider's site.
Coverage is strong in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui, and the main tourist islands. Signal can be weaker on smaller islands, in national parks such as Khao Sok, and in the mountains of the far north.
Tourist SIMs from AIS and True are sold at kiosks in Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports, at Phuket airport, and in 7-Eleven stores. Every SIM must be registered with your passport, which the seller does for you when you buy it.
Thai tourist SIMs are good value, so a local SIM is a reasonable choice if you do not mind queuing at the airport kiosk. A travel eSIM avoids the queue and the registration, and works as soon as you land.
Buy the plan and install the eSIM profile before you travel, while you are on reliable Wi-Fi, using the QR code or the provider app. Check when the plan's validity starts: most start when the eSIM first connects in Thailand, but some start on install. Follow the provider's instructions on when to switch the line on.
After arriving, turn on the eSIM line, set it as your data line, and turn on data roaming for the eSIM line. Most travel eSIMs will not connect without it. Turn off data roaming on your UK line so your UK network does not charge you for data.
If there is no connection after a minute, switch airplane mode on and off once. You can keep your UK line on for calls and texts on your usual number, but calls and texts received abroad may still be charged by your UK network. If you are not sure your phone supports eSIM, check our eSIM compatibility guide before you buy.
If you are arriving on a late flight, install and check your eSIM before you leave the UK. Airport kiosks can have long queues at peak arrival times, and you will want data for a Grab or taxi booking straight away.
Answers to common questions about using a travel eSIM in Thailand.
Yes, on the main islands such as Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, and Koh Phi Phi. Coverage can be weaker on smaller, less developed islands and on boats between them.
Yes, if you choose a regional Asia plan that covers all three. Check the country list before you buy, because regional plans do not all cover the same destinations.
No. Passport registration applies to Thai SIMs bought locally. A travel eSIM bought from an international provider before you fly does not need it.
Yes. Grab only needs a data connection. Some features, such as verifying a new account by SMS, are easier to set up before you travel while you still have your UK number.
Most travel eSIMs are data only and do not include a Thai number. You can call and message through LINE or WhatsApp.
