Compare current Lycamobile SIM only deals

Lycamobile is one of the UK’s longer-established MVNOs, having launched in 2006 with a focus on affordable plans and international calling. It now runs on EE’s network following a switch from O2 in 2023, which significantly improved its coverage and speed credentials. Plans start from £4 per month, none require a credit check, and most include 100 international calling minutes to over 40 countries. But how does it stack up against the competition? This review compares Lycamobile directly with Lebara, Spusu, and Giffgaff to help you decide.

How we reviewed Lycamobile

To put this review together, we checked Lycamobile’s current plan lineup and pricing against live deal data in April 2026, verified the underlying network and coverage claims, and reviewed Lycamobile’s credit check policy and international calling terms. We also reviewed independent customer service data including current Trustpilot ratings to give an honest picture of where Lycamobile performs well and where it falls short.

What is Lycamobile?

Lycamobile is an MVNO running on EE’s 4G and 5G network. It offers SIM-only plans on one-month rolling, 12-month, and 24-month contracts. All plans are available without a credit check. Most plans include 100 international calling minutes to over 40 countries as standard, and EU roaming is included across the range. Lycamobile is one of the few budget networks to offer fixed-term contracts alongside rolling monthly plans, which gives it a pricing advantage over MVNOs that only offer monthly flexibility.

Lycamobile vs Lebara

Lebara is Lycamobile’s closest direct competitor. Both are budget MVNOs focused on international calling, both offer no credit check plans, and both have historically targeted customers who call overseas regularly. The differences are in the underlying network and contract structure.

Network

Lycamobile runs on EE. Lebara runs on Vodafone. EE has a slight edge on 4G reliability in independent testing, though both are strong networks nationally. For most users the difference will be marginal, but if rural or semi-rural coverage matters to you, EE’s footprint is broader. Edge: Lycamobile.

Price

Lycamobile’s 24-month plans start from £4 per month. Lebara’s rolling monthly plans are competitive at similar data allowances. If you are willing to commit to a fixed term, Lycamobile comes out cheaper. On a rolling monthly basis the two are closely matched. Edge: Lycamobile on fixed terms, draw on rolling monthly.

International calling

Both networks include international minutes as standard. Lycamobile includes 100 minutes to over 40 countries on most plans. Lebara’s international calling coverage is similarly broad. Check both against your most-called destinations before deciding. Draw.

Contract flexibility

Lycamobile offers one-month, 12-month, and 24-month options. Lebara’s range is weighted more heavily towards rolling monthly plans. If you want the option of a fixed term to lock in a lower price, Lycamobile has more options. Edge: Lycamobile.

Customer service

Both networks have mixed customer service reviews. Lycamobile’s current Trustpilot rating for the UK is 2.7 out of 5, which reflects a consistent pattern of complaints around billing and porting issues. Lebara’s rating is higher. Edge: Lebara.

Verdict

For most users choosing between the two, Lycamobile has the pricing advantage if you are willing to commit to a 12 or 24-month term. Lebara is the stronger choice if you want month-to-month flexibility or place more weight on customer service. The network quality difference between EE and Vodafone is real but unlikely to be decisive for most urban and suburban users.

Lycamobile vs Spusu

Spusu is a newer MVNO that also runs on EE’s network. The comparison is useful because the two networks share the same infrastructure but have meaningfully different propositions. Read our full Spusu review.

Network

Both run on EE. Draw.

Price

Spusu starts from £3.90 per month on a rolling monthly basis. Lycamobile’s rolling monthly plans start from £5 per month. On monthly flexibility, Spusu is cheaper. On fixed terms, Lycamobile’s 24-month plans from £4 per month close the gap. Edge: Spusu for rolling monthly, Lycamobile for fixed term.

International calling

Lycamobile includes 100 international minutes to over 40 countries on most plans. Spusu includes 500 minutes to EU countries as standard but these are EU-specific rather than global. If you call outside the EU regularly, Lycamobile’s international minutes are the more useful inclusion. Edge: Lycamobile for non-EU international callers, Spusu for EU callers.

Contract flexibility

Spusu is rolling monthly only. Lycamobile offers monthly, 12-month, and 24-month options. Edge: Lycamobile for range of options, Spusu for pure flexibility.

Customer service

Spusu offers UK phone customer service, which is unusual at this price point. Lycamobile’s customer service reviews are mixed. Edge: Spusu.

Cancellation

Spusu’s cancellation requires a signed form by email or post. Lycamobile’s process is more straightforward. Edge: Lycamobile.

Verdict

If you call internationally outside the EU and want a fixed-term plan to keep costs down, Lycamobile is the stronger choice. If you want maximum flexibility on a rolling monthly basis and value phone-based customer support, Spusu has the edge.

Lycamobile vs Giffgaff

Giffgaff runs on O2’s network and is one of the most recognisable budget MVNOs in the UK.

Network

Lycamobile runs on EE. Giffgaff runs on O2. EE has a broader 4G coverage footprint and has consistently ranked higher than O2 in independent reliability testing. Edge: Lycamobile.

Price

Lycamobile’s plans start from £4 per month. Giffgaff’s entry-level plans start from £6 per month for comparable data. Edge: Lycamobile.

International calling

Lycamobile includes 100 international minutes to over 40 countries on most plans. Giffgaff does not include international minutes as standard. Edge: Lycamobile for international callers.

Credit check

Neither network requires a credit check. See our no credit check SIM only deals page for the full market view. Draw.

Customer service

Giffgaff is community-led with no direct phone or chat support. Lycamobile has a customer service team, though reviews are mixed. Edge: Lycamobile marginally.

Verdict

Lycamobile wins on price, network quality, and international calling. Giffgaff has stronger brand recognition and a well-established community, but on the metrics that matter for most users considering this comparison, Lycamobile has the clearer advantage.

Is Lycamobile worth it?

For most users who call internationally and want EE network quality at a budget price, yes. The combination of no credit check, fixed-term contract options, and included international minutes is genuinely useful and not easily matched at this price point. The 24-month plan at £4 per month with 5GB and 100 international minutes is one of the better-value deals currently available on EE’s network.

The honest caveat is customer service. If you rarely need to contact your network, Lycamobile’s low pricing and EE backing make it a strong choice. If you have had billing disputes or porting difficulties with other networks in the past and value responsive support, factor in that Lycamobile’s Trustpilot rating reflects a pattern of issues in that area.
